Day 1: Arrival in Hendersonville
As we drove into Hendersonville, excitement washed over us! This charming town, nestled in the heart of Western North Carolina, is a perfect base for our adventures. We decided to start out in Brevard and visit The Hub. The first stop for any mountain biker visiting the area. From there, we made the short drive into Pisgah National Forest to explore the Moore Cove Trail and waterfalls. Always, a great start to any WNC trip. After settling into our cozy accommodations with Brightwater Vacation Rentals, we decided to kick off our culinary exploration at Ecusta Brewery. The local craft beer selection was impressive, and we indulged in a delightful flight while munching on some tasty fare.
Day 2: A Day of Hiking at Dupont Forest
We woke up bright and early, eager to explore Dupont State Recreational Forest. Our hiking adventure started at Big Rock and Cedar Rock trail, where the views were nothing short of breathtaking. Climbing the smooth granite faces was exhilarating and rewarding. The fresh mountain air filled our lungs, and we could hear nature's symphony all around us.
After conquering Cedar Rock, we made our way to the three iconic waterfalls of Hooker Falls, Triple Falls and High Falls. This gorgeous trio of waterfalls is a must-see. Standing on the bridge while watching the water tumble down was mesmerizing, making all our hiking efforts worthwhile. We snapped some photos to immortalize the experience.
Day 3: Tasting the Local Brews and Treats
After two days of hiking, we decided to take it easy and wander the bike shops and dive into the local food scene. Coffee at Cognative Cafe, for a hot cup of joe and a little shopping was our first stop. Such a fun little stop just off the Ecusta trail. From there we made our way to Weevil Outdoor so my husband could stock up on some new mountain bike gear. Later in the afternoon, we made our way to Dolly’s Dairy Bar. This quirky spot is known for its delicious homemade ice cream, and wow, we were not disappointed! Scoops of rich, creamy ice cream became our reward for a day of relaxation. The black cherry was amazing!
Our last stop was Sierra Nevada Brewery. Known for its sustainability initiatives and delicious beers, we savored the flavors while enjoying the stunning views of the mountains. The food was top-notch and their menu is seasonal. The jambalaya and mussels were out of this world. The brewery offered tours, and learning about the brewing process was fun!
Day 4: Another Day of Adventure
Feeling refreshed, we wanted to strike the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure. We returned to Dupont State Forest and explored some new trails. Hiking is not just good for the body; it’s great for the soul! Each step brought us closer to nature, and the vibrant flora and fauna painted a picturesque backdrop for our exploration. To cap off our hike, we ventured to Bridal Veil Falls, where we enjoyed a leisurely stroll while soaking in the scenic beauty surrounding us.
Before heading home, we couldn't resist one last stop at Ecusta Brewery for a final taste of their locally brewed specialties.
Day 5: Farewell to Hendersonville
On our last day, we took a leisurely stroll around downtown Hendersonville. The charming shops and local artisan stores were delightful.
Our trip to Western North Carolina was filled with adventure, stunning sights, and incredible flavors. From hiking the trails in Dupont Forest to savoring local beers and ice cream, it was an unforgettable experience. We left with memories that will linger long after the trip ends.
